BIRDING VEST

Birders' Buddy was designed BY birders FOR birders. Every part was carefully thought out to accommodate the needs of active birdwatching.

The upper pockets hold lens caps or glasses -- in either an easy-access or security position. The upper left pocket also holds a pencil.
The lower pockets are large and deep -- to hold one or several bird books*, your camera, binoculars, and odds and ends.
The back stuff pocket is large enough to easily carry your jacket and lunch.
(*Even the larger-sized National Geographic Guide fits with the pocket flap sealed.)
The vest's most unique feature is its open sides -- secured by Velcro straps. This allows for ventilation in the summer, so the vest is not really hotter to wear than whatever you choose to wear underneath. In the winter the straps can be expanded to wear the vest over your bulkiest coat for participation in the Christmas Bird Count or other severe weather birding activities.

The Birders' Buddy is made of desert tan in 65%/35% poly/cotton and comes in four sizes. The price is $65.-$70

OTHER SPECIAL FEATURES

Depending on your preferred strap length, your binoculars can often be tucked under the upper clasp on the vest to prevent excessive bouncing while walking.
Birders' Buddy is a great organizer for in-and-out of the car birdwatching in areas such as the Everglades. Everything you need is right there the moment you step out of the car -- no scrambling for your gear as the bird flies away.
The most obvious advantage of the vest is to always have your book (or books!) within easy reach while having your hands free for your binoculars.

Betsy McKellar has been making the Birders' Buddy on her sewing machine for years. Many birders have offered testimonials based on their experiences with the vest. They range from the enthusiastic to the wildly enthusiastic.
